The Eye of Glory
The festering semi-ruin that is the city of Kerinstye is the last bastion of civilisation, if you can call it that. Ruled by seven bickering princes and an assortment of sleazy factions, Kerinstye is home to people like backstreet wizard Talsin and part-time footpad Dalden.
What seems like a typical piece of petty larceny opens up a new world for Talsin and Dalden; a scary world of monsters, heroes and armies of savage nomads. Kerinstye faces total destruction, and its only hope is a hero-making artefact known as The Eye of Glory. Co-opted into the great quest to find the Eye and save what is left of the city, Talsin and Dalden must confront barbarians, soul-eating monsters and a fearsome logistician - and all the while hoping their allies never realise they were the ones who stole the damn thing in the first place.
This is heroic fantasy from the viewpoint of people who aren't heroes.
