Spring Seminar 2013

Picture
This is one of the highlights of Spring Seminar 2013 - well, for other people at least. I think Dave was making the point that 'someone kneeling on your head is quite painful' or something like that.
ASMAA's Spring Seminar 2013 was an all-styles gathering that brought together a wide range of martial artists from many different backgrounds.

I was in part serving as recipient-of-pain and in part as assistant instructor. We covered a lot of applications of fairly standard martial arts techniques and escapes from commonly occurring situations.

Some of the material was new to many of the attendees; to some it was familiar which gave us the chance to explore it in a little more depth.

All-styles events like this can be a challenge, since some attendees are at square one on any given technique and others know nineteen variants of it. But that can also be part of the fun...

It says a lot about a martial artist that he/she is willing to leave their area of expertise and essentially be a beginner again. Many are simply not willing, but for those that are, a multi-styles event is a chance to get a new perspective or take a look at something you would not normally get to.

I seem vaguely bemused here. Somebody probably said 'smile' or something like that.

Anyway, this was at Andy Crittenden's ACMAC venue in Doncaster, where we hold a lot of our seminars. It's a different event but I'm at a loss to recall which one - possibly an earlier ASMAA all-styles event.
